Silicon Valley Berryessa Extension (SVBX)

The SVBX project is the extension of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) from Fremont, CA to San Jose. This project was a 10 mile railroad relocation and right-of-way (ROW) development project that had seven waterways and thirteen bridges, or under-crossings, associated with it.

Ally Rail staff worked on this project from the 10% design phase to the inspection of the trackwork insulation, for over 10 years. Our main duties, as they evolved with the project phases, design review, included crossing development, utility relocations, Union Pacific Railroad track relocation coordination and negotiations, Roadway Worker Protection (RWP), project oversight,.. among many, many, other duties from 2005 until 2016.

Mountain View LRT Double Track

The Mountain View Light Rail (LRT) Transit Double Track project was a one mile track installation, with several turnouts, and a overhead catenary system (OCS). The construction was sandwiched between the VTA's existing light rail transit (LRT) system and the Caltrain right-of-way, both with commuter train schedules. This presented many challenges limited work windows, limited working space, complex utilities relocations and installations, and multiple agency coordination and restrictions. The complications, and the proximity of VTA LRT and Caltrain, limited the work to mostly nighttime hours. However, this added the complexity noise restrictions, because of nearby residences. Additionally, the project was on a hard completion date, to accommodate the added ridership on the VTA LRT from Superbowl 50.
Ally Rail staff helped monitor, inspect and coordinate the work, including safety.
Project Cost: $35m.*
